What

The proposed streetcar line from Pentagon City to Bailey’s Crossroads has been put forth as the best transit option to realize the goals for the revitalization of the Columbia Pike corridor and its economic development.  However, some believe that a less costly bus rapid transit system would provide the same benefits. 

 

At our April meeting, we will hear proponents of each of these two alternatives address the issues relative to the transit options on Columbia Pike. Is the streetcar system vital to the economic development along the Pike?  What are the costs and environmental impact of each system?

 

Scott McCaffrey, Managing Editor of the Arlington Sun Gazette, will provide a short overview of the issue and serve as moderator of the discussion / debate.

David DeCamp, Chairman of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce and supporter of Arlington Streetcar Now, will talk about the advantages of the streetcar

 

 

Peter Rousselot, a leader of Arlingtonians for Sensible Transit, will present the case for the bus rapid transit system as a less expensive option.

Reservations

Reservations may by made by email or telephone. To make a reservation for this month's meeting, email your name, the name(s) of your guest(s), and the total number of reservations to reservations@arlingtoncommitteeof100.org or call 703-921-1124. Reservations (and cancellations) must be made by 6:00 p.m. Sunday, April 7.

“Program-only” seating will be available to accommodate members and guests who arrive after dinner. No reservation is necessary to attend only the program.

During the 2012-2013 program year, the price of dinner is $26 for members and $28 for nonmembers or guests. For greater savings, members may purchase10-punch dinner cards for $235 or 6-punch cards for $145.  Pay at the door with cash, check or dinner card. Please bring your check, made out to Arlington Committee of 100 for the proper amount, to the meeting to facilitate check-in. 

Late Cancellations

On the morning after the cancellation deadline, the Committee of 100 guarantees our dinner reservations to Marymount. If you are unable to honor your reservation, send your $26/$28 check, payable to Committee of 100, to Treasurer, Arlington Committee of 100, P.O. Box 5534, Arlington, VA 22205.

Parking

Marymount University can accommodate parking on-site for Committee of 100 meetings.  Look for a parking space in the garage structure attached to the dining hall. Handicapped spaces are on the same level as the dining hall. You may also park in the surface lot off North Glebe Road, and follow the path to the stairway that leads to the entrance of the dining hall.

Parking permits are needed to park in the Marymount garage and lots!  Permits for 2012-2013 will be available at check-in.  Blue parking permits from the previous year have expired.  If you do not have a permit, you MUST get one when you check in. Display the permit in the window of your car during the meeting! Keep your parking permit in your car for use at the remaining meetings of this program year.

The Marymount Shuttle no longer operates after 7:00 PM.

Ride Sharing

Some of our members are no longer able to drive to our meetings but would still like to attend. If you are willing to drive someone to our meetings, let us know and we will pair you up with someone who lives near you.
