What
We are in the middle of an information revolution that will have a profound impact on everyone’s life. Everything from traffic lights to electronic textbooks to community television is part of the mix. Arlington County is a finalist – from among 450 communities around the world – to be recognized as an “Intelligent Community.” But is our information infrastructure remaining competitive and are we truly planning for The Future?
The contract with Comcast, Arlington’s current franchise provider, will expire in June 2013, and the renewal process – and closely-related issues in Information & Communications Technology – will shape the future of education, county services and business in Arlington for decades to come. Many of the services we now take for granted, such as Arlington Independent Media (AIM), will be on the table. We need to be proactive and pursue a longer term plan that would include a county and schools broadband infrastructure to meet true 21st century demands.
Click here to see a paper containing a summary of the issues to be discussed; it will be available as a handout at the dinner meeting.
