Living Independently in Arlington County
Are We Meeting Our Seniors’ Needs?
What
As baby boomers age, the number of seniors in Arlington will increase dramatically. According to the Arlington County 2008 Profile, Arlington’s 85 and over population grew 51 percent from 2000 (2,518) to 2008 (3,800). With 707 nursing home and 423 assisted living beds (total 1,123) serving residents of all ages, it is easy to see that the vast majority of Arlington residents live in neighborhoods.
“Aging in Place” is a nationwide initiative designed to help prepare communities for the aging of their populations and to become places that are good to grow up, live and grow old in. So, are we accommodating the needs of seniors living in Arlington’s neighborhoods? How can we better meet those needs in such a way that allows seniors to lead full and independent lives while remaining in their own homes?
Please come with your questions for this important meeting on living independently in Arlington.
In partnership with the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC), the Committee of 100 encourages attendees to help Arlington families in need by bringing soup, cereal, canned goods, pasta, or peanut butter to the June 10th meeting.
